Are Australian Men Droolworthy or Not?

Are Australians Red Necked Englishmen?

Well, as an Aussie myself, at first I thought it was a joke when I heard the comment. Of course, it's my home, clearly, it's a great place to be born in!
But, lately, I've been starting to wonder...
It started with reading an Article a few days ago. To be specific, the Article was called: 'Worlds Worst Husbands Are Australians'.
Underneath the Article were various similar comments from Aussie Women, Women and from Men from Foreign Countries, and also from Partners married to Aussie Men around the world:

"yes- the way they treat women in australia is like from the dark ages! - as an immigrant i cannot believe the amount of domestic violence & general attitudes & aggression towards women (even in the parking lot) thank god i am not married to one"

"I am a migrant here and I must say the worst husbands are from Australia...I am coming from a developing country...the only thing Aussie husbands know are beer, bbq and the beach. They simply don't care about giving enough time for their children...they seem to treat women like piece of meat"

"Having lived in both Canada and Australia I must say that as much as I love Australia I feel they way they treat their women is about 20 years behind. I am utterly shocked that women put up with so much here. Thank god there are exceptions"

"How topical, since I just spent my morning running around cleaning up for a house inspection before work, while my male flat mates magically managed to avoid doing a damn thing".

Ouch!
That's gotta hurt?
What I was surprised about was how ->few<- Aussie Men wrote that they did help with at least some cleaning around the house and Aussie Men are, in fact, not all that bad!

Thankfully, there were a few, such as David and Jack who pointed out that they also contributed to housework, sometimes more than Aussie Women. However, more Aussie Men opted to write comments such as "its womens work anyway", and "women don't even earn as much as men doing real jobs so they should contribute by doing household work" degrading comment ect.

Oh no, this wasn't the kind of Aussie household that I'd grown up in, where my family worked together as far as chores around the house were concerned. Also, my Dads', Uncles' and Friends' Dads' also contribute around the house with house-workin. I grew up thinking that this was pretty normal, what my Dad actually wanted me to think according to him <3.
So then, if that's so normal, then WHY were so many comments saying the opposite then?
Admittedly, my first reaction was to feel confused and disappointed. I decided to do some research: I found the statistics behind the article here: http://www.economics.ox.ac.uk/Researcg/wp/pdf/paper325.pdf

The very recent statistic of more than 13 000 people from each country showed that Men from Sweden, Norway, North Ireland, Great Britain, United States, Ireland, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand Austria and Japan were more likely to share household chores than Aussie Men. O.o Okay then...so there were statistics behind the article...but I didn't believe them...

I spent a lot of time trying to find some sites that might portray the Aussie Men in a more positive light. After skimming through a whole heap of sites trying to match up Aussie Men with Aussie Women, I found the site "Australian Men: Droolworthy or Not?

________________________________________________________________________________

The site was about a Foreigner who'd met a hot, honest and seemingly nice Aussie Man. Probably, he is a nice guy. Yeah, there's some great Guys here, it's true...like my lil Brothers ^_~
But, anyway, reading down the comments on the blog, there was a Woman writing about her disrespectful husband, but that the Women here are pretty cool ect. Def, there are some really aweful types here, I wont deny it!
Umm, yeah, pretty much the same as within every Nationality of Man?!

But, c'mon, this is an internet site about something positive for once!
The Guys here are just Guys, right!?
Keen to point out that this was abnormal behaviour and that most Men here are really nice, I pointed out that he was behaving like a "douche" and the Men AND Women here are pretty awesome!
But then, I read down the comments and a lot of them were really nasty ones supposedly from Aussie Men targetting not only Aussie Women, but American Women too. According to some Men on this site, Aussie Women are "stuck up snoots", "the most disloyal bitches in the world" and American Women are "loose" (sexually). Interestingly enough, on Page 29 of the same Survey above, under the title "Married People are Happier", Australia scored the highest; whilst, America scored the second highest of the countries.

Soo statistically, nothing wrong with American Women or Aussie Women, actually...:P
Really, Guys are Guys and Girls are Girls. If we were all so freakin flawless then we would be Machines and not people. Not that I have anything against Machines (now that my keyboard's behaving).

I felt as though this guy was being a tool, so I pointed out (maybe rudely) his abnormalities; whilst, asserting that the Men aren't all like him. *Inner thought* Tool, finally a site where someone is actually saying something nice about Australia and you've gotta go slagging Women off like a Male Chavenistic Version of a certain Red Necked Aussie Pollie moving to England.

I proudly stated all the work that the Men in my Family do (underexaggerating on the work I do myself...cos that is irrelevant to my point)!

The thread continued on. One Man compared Aussie Women to "Aborigines" because apparently we both live off welfare payments and do nothing. How freakin SEXIST, not to mention RACIST!
As a girl from the NT I was pretty bloody damn right annoyed (don't take the foul language too literally, though. Cursing in the NT isn't something so gasp-worthy)!
Nyway, the comments continued on, pointing out that since Aussie Men are entitled to not do the housework, that the Men will go to Countries in Asia like Thailand and The Phillipenes to find a Wife to cook and clean for them!
How disgusting! was how I felt...to consider buying? a Woman from these Counties as an object? slave?
I found it very disrespectful.

There are many other wonderful qualities to marry a Woman from Asia for other than someone there just to cook and clean. Furthermore, apparently because a young Canadian Lady had lived in Korea (didn't state if it was 2 weeks or a year) and had been told that Korean Men ALL had Mistresses, it somehow logically made sense to her that in every country in Asia the Women would marry and cook and clean just for the money, not to mention- cheat!
Ouch!
Don't know what she's got up her bum, but obviously a Superiority Complex is shoved up there somewhere, probably to hide those blaring insecurity issues. Cos, maybe she doesn't agree with my point, but I find it preeety hard to take someone seriously who wants to date a guy that doesn't want to have sex with her, let her watch any tv programs other than footy, let her hang out with any of her Mates, make her cook, clean ect with no help or support. Dude. Part of how People express affection and gratitude is through helping each other out and being physically intimate!
You can't tango with one person and you can't dance a relationship without a partner. There's gotta be equal input somewhere along the way!

Actually, I have some cool Mates from South Korea (Females and Males) in Australia and from Japan and oh boi I somehow don't think you'd feel so smug telling that to their faces! :P

Actually X 2, my friends in Japan who were attracted to Westerners were attracted NOT for the money, but because of the romantic image of Men in AMERICAN movies. You know that sweetheart guy that helps around the house, is sweet and funny and senstive, buys chocolates for Valentines Day, is polite, has a ridiculously over the top wedding, goes to the trouble of buying an amazing diamond ring ect. The um same kind of Stereotype that gets Women all over the World (including Australians) excited. Many of my Japanese friends also found Western People to be quite ugly because of big noses, large stomaches, messy hair ect. I'd have to agree- generally we do tend to have bigger noses, fatter boddies, messier hair, I guess...

A young Aussie Woman wrote that her Dad had actually married a Woman from the Phillipines and the relationship hadn't been out of love, but based on money. I can imagine the pain that this Woman must have felt, being torn away from her family and treated poorly by a Man in country foreign/ alien to her own!
No wonder her Daughter has developed such a poor image of Australian Men!
Actually, I'd lived in a Family in Asia where the Dad was still bitter at his Father for an Arranged Marriage to his Mother. So, I don't think that it's something terribly uncommon...

When I wrote about how her comment is a warning that the kids of people who go to the Phillipines to find a wife just for cooking and cleaning (COOKING AND CLEANING specifically...just as in specifically), well their children might suffer. Umm, yeah, apparently, this view was taken by the same people being racist against Aussie Women, American Women, American Men, and Asian Women and Men as somehow racist to the Aussie Men and one Canadian Woman on the site?
Oh boi. I hope if they decide to breed within themselves that they move to some remote deserted desert in the middle of no where and don't make the rest of humanity suffer for their mere existence. Any prejudice within me would urge for Facebook to create an dislike button so that I could instantly *dislike* these idiots!

In fact, the truth is that the person I refer to as 'my Man' isn't actually Australian. He's actually a very handsome Japanese Man who I love very much!
For the Guy on the Site that blabbers about the challenges of going overseas and adjusting to a different culture, learning a different language ect to find a Servant Wife. Dude, please just do me a favour and go and live there if you want to whinge so much!
At least the poor Woman would get to live with her family then!
PS Hope you get fired from your job for being annoying like the guy on the news. So there! :P

How is my point that it is important to marry people from The Phillipines or Japan or Australia or America for love or at least because you care about them racist?
I never said 'Don't marry Filipino people', you dolts!
Futhermore, umm, yeah...love IS important in a marriage...otherwise there wouldn't be this thing called DIVORCE!

But, unfortunately I never got the opportunity to verbally knock some sense into these stone heads as the thread was closed. Of course, ending with racism from an Aussie Man and a Canadian Girl, presenting her view that Koreans have a 'feminine...(and)... traditional' '"cheating" culture' natter natter natter *you are so annoy-ii-ing, so annoy-ii-ing, so annoy-ii-ing to me* and his view that 'Aussie Men are saught after all over the world- why- because we are awesome- we are playful, fun, loyal and great partners'. Pull your head in, Mate!
Arrogance is not something attractive to add the list!

Having lived in Asia as an exchange student in Japan for a year in a variety of different Host Familes, I've found that the Husbands there were very respectful and most did help out around the house in some way. Furthermore, umm, yup, Japanese Men have a higher score than Aussie Men as far as helping out around the house is concerned on the survey. I lived with my parents for 3 months in Indonesia. When I was a young child I spent a lot of time each week for years as a child hanging out with Indonesian Immigrants in Australia when my Dad played in the Gamelan ( not sure if that's spelt right, but it's a kind of Indonesian band) for years after that. Many people, from my home town of Darwin are Asian Tourists, Immigrants, Descendents ect. My babysitter was an Elderly Chinese Immigrant. I have found the Men from Asia to treat their Women very well, thank-you very much!
Stop putting them down, you arrogant prick!
If Men in Asia are so horribe...well, think it's very obvious that I'm a very opioniated young Woman....and yet my Man's Japanese and a total sweetheart!

Furthermore, I have a friend from Ethiopia who said that had a boyfriend from the Middle East and was engaged to him at one point. She said he treated her like a Princess (the Guy reckons that Saudia Arabian Men all gauge their Womens eyes out). Oh yeah, and my friend has EYES!
Have met very nice young Women from Iraq and Iran here. They have noticably very beautiful EYES!

What is this racist image that Asian/Arabian Men supposedly don't treat their Women well?! :O

If you believe statistics, Asian Men (from Japan) actually treat their Women BETTER than the Aussie's here. From all the sites I've read recently, if I was a logical person not from Australia, then I would think that Aussie Men in the blog commentary are not only Sexist, but Racist too!

Actually, one of the first things my Man texted me after I gave him my phone number was about a meal he can cook. I think the idea that all Asian Women want is to cook is definitely warped. From my experience in Japan, food is considered a form of entertainment and pleasure. So, it's not so unnatural to talk about food and cooking!

Soo...if 'm not dating an Aussie Guy, and I'm an Aussie Girl born and bred...isn't some element of truth in what the research suggests and what so many Women and Men have been saying on net sites?
I'd set out to defend Aussie Men and I know that there are some really nice Aussie guys here, like my Dad, Mates, Brothers and the rest of my Family. But, dude if they want to be known to the Women of the World generally as tools then, unfortunately, there's not really much I can do about it...
I just feel sorry for the genuinely nice Guys who live here atm and have to put up with this really lame stereotype, because nice Aussie Men DO exist ;)

No need to blame to the Women here either. Just looking up Interracial Marriage on the Wikipedia, the 2005 facts (couldn't find the more recent ones) suggest that more Women marry people not born in Australia than Aussie Men. A reminder that also, page 29 of the Survey above, studying Men, presents that Australia and America scored highest under the section "married people are happier". This suggests that despite complaints from Men in Oz, many are pretty content with Women here. Also, despite the racist comments directed at American Women, ironically America scored the 2nd highest! :D

There are facts to support Aussie Women. But, but where are all the nice Aussie Guys I know out there who prove the stereotype wrong?!?
